Distressed Real Estate

Following an unprecedented cycle of rising real estate values and inexpensive financing, investors are now faced with a much tougher environment.  Stroock's Distressed Real Estate team has experience in the workout, enforcement and liquidation of distressed real estate that dates back to the severe real estate recession of the late 1980’s and early-to-mid 1990’s, as well as the milder downturns following the 1998 bond market crises and the events of September 11, 2001.  That experience is being actively applied to help clients analyze and craft solutions in the credit crises of today.

Our experience makes us uniquely qualified to protect clients that have invested, or wish to invest, at all levels of a distressed property's capital structure.  We have represented clients in virtually every type of commercial real estate financing transaction, and are familiar with the full range of co-lending relationships that exist in today’s marketplace.  We are keenly aware of the challenges that these capital structures and co-lending relationships impose upon our clients and their ability to collect upon, or preserve, their investments.

Stroock’s Distressed Real Estate practice is one component of a large, national commercial real estate practice.  Our firm’s depth and breadth enables us to draw on the experience and skill of partners in our real estate, litigation, bankruptcy, structured finance, private funds, tax, ERISA and derivatives practice groups to provide each client with a dedicated team of attorneys with the background and experience best suited for their particular situation.
