Mentoring

Stroock assigns three mentors to each summer associate, assuring that there is always someone available to help guide the summer associates through their stay with us. Reflecting the practice area interests expressed by the incoming summer associate, one partner and one mid- to senior-level associate are selected in addition to a junior associate, allowing the relationships to evolve according to the style of each attorney.

One of the greatest mentoring opportunities Stroock offers is having a summer associate share an office with a first-year associate. Because first-year associates are the most recent graduates of the summer internship experience, as well as being the newest members of our family, we believe this relationship provides an invaluable resource for the summer associates' integration into the Stroock culture.

In the Los Angeles office, the mentoring program is referred to as the “Shadow Program.” Each summer associate is assigned no less than two mentors, in an effort to assure that someone is always available to help guide the summer associate through his or her stay with us. The purpose is two fold: to provide an opportunity for the summer associate to use these attorneys’ experience and guidance as resources throughout the summer and to give the summer associate a glimpse into the work life of an attorney at Stroock. During the first two weeks of the summer program, the summer associates work closely with their mentors. As is customary at many Los Angeles law firms, each summer associate will be provided his or her own office and will share a secretary with other attorneys at the firm.
